Summary

At NCCI's July Annual Conference, leaders from UW-Eau Claire shared how they are managing a major reduction in state funding by consolidating services and re-inventing support for faculty, staff and students. Over only eight months, UW-Eau Claire designed, implemented and went live with three new service centers. This webinar is a follow-up report on how the university is maintaining momentum for significant change, and continuing to create a new direction while maintaining a focus on student success and service excellence.

Presenter Backgrounds

A longtime champion of public higher education, Dr. James Schmidt has served as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire since July 2013. Under his leadership, UW-Eau Claire continues to be ranked among the top five Midwest comprehensive universities, known for nationally recognized programs in international learning and undergraduate research. He has launched new community partnership efforts resulting in multi-million dollar investments in shared arts, recreation and residence facilities. Prior to joining UW-Eau Claire, Chancellor Schmidt served as vice president for university advancement at Winona State University and as executive director of the WSU Foundation board of trustees. He holds a doctorate in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas and a bachelor's degree in political science from Winona State University.

Kristen Hendrickson currently serves as the executive director of the Administrative Support and Knowledge Center at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. Prior to UW-Eau Claire, she was the director of planning, research, and policy analysis at Illinois State University and has also worked for twelve years in the University of Wisconsin System, both at the system and institutional level. She is currently a doctoral student in higher education administration at Illinois State University.

Bill Felz is the executive director of the Advising, Retention and Career Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Prior to joining UW-Eau Claire he worked in a variety of administrative positions in academic affairs, academic advising, residence hall management and student activities. Most recently, he served as associate director of academic programs for the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management at New York University. He received his bachelor and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
