Becky Sowers joined the Office of Organizational Excellence in May 2023 as a Senior Associate. Becky most recently joins OE from the McIntire School of Commerce where she managed the Operations and Data team, and provided business intelligence, process improvement, and operational support to the larger Career Services team. Becky has been working at the University of Virginia since 2018, when she decided to make a career pivot to the higher education space.
Becky graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Systems Engineering, before launching a career in IT consulting, first with Accenture and then with Deloitte. During this time, she served as a subject matter expert and led the development, design, testing, and training for supply chain and finance systems for clients in the commercial and federal sectors. To increase her relevancy in the workplace, Becky returned to school to earn an M.B.A. with concentrations in finance and sustainable enterprise from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. She was then invited to join the Technology MBA Leadership Development Program at Bank of America. Her roles spanned data analytics, project management, process improvement, and associate readiness.
Becky holds a certification in Prosci Change Management and earned a Six Sigma Green Belt certification while working at Bank of America. She is an active mentor in the Virginia Alumni program and Virginia Athletics Department, and is part of the University’s eighth Cornerstone Program (for succession development).
