Resilience at Work: June 6, 1pm Eastern

Resilience got a bad name during the pandemic, with many university employees reporting feeling like a frog who went for a nice soak and wound up as dinner. Fast forward a few years, and higher education’s attempts to focus on wellness appear largely ineffective at addressing the wave of employee disengagement and disillusionment. In this session, we will dive into a research-backed model of whole person resilience at work: what goes into it and how institutions can support it. Because employee resilience – especially the individual resilience of leaders – has a demonstrable impact on retention, recruitment, engagement and productivity. Resilient leaders, those in the classroom, the laboratory, or the administrative suite, help their teams sustain performance during times of high pressure, complexity, and change. The Resilience at Work framework offers leaders at all levels of an organization practical strategies to create and sustain a culture of resilience in the workplace.

Learning outcomes:

  • Discover the seven interrelated elements of resilience at work.
  • Delve into the connection between your institution’s mission, vision, and values and employee resilience.
  • Learn strengths-based approaches to promote your own resilience and model that in your workplace.
  • Understand the significance of leader resilience – in mindset, body and action – for the resilience of your institution
Learning Together to Transform Higher Education

The Exchange is an online networking opportunity for NCCI members to share ideas, tools, and best practices relating to the topic of change, innovation, strategy, and/or leadership development. As a result of participating in these sessions, participants will strengthen relationships with peers, grow their knowledge, and become better equipped to transform higher education institutions as change leaders.

Leading Change in Higher Education: Virtual Workshop presented by AASCU and NCCI and sponsored by ModernThink

May 23, 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm Eastern

This program is sponsored by

The higher education environment continues to evolve in new and often unpredictable ways. The challenges are varied and constantly evolving, from the changing landscape of diversity, equity, and inclusion to the declining enrollments and corresponding budget realignments and waning public support for higher education. Leaders must be prepared to lead in this unsettling environment and continue to move their institutions forward. It is more important now than ever that higher education leaders have the tools they need to drive proactive and strategic change on campus. This virtual workshop will highlight the Change Leadership Toolkit (CLT), a step-by-step, research-based guidebook for leaders engaged in projects that touch multiple departments, divisions, or units and require deep and meaningful changes to policies, procedures, norms, and cultures. The CLT was developed by Susan Elrod, Adrianna Kezar, and Angel de Jesus Gonzalez and published by the Pullias Center for Higher Education at the University of Southern California. The benefits of participation in this program include:

  • Identify your own leadership role and agency in leading change at your institution.
  • Gain practical tools for immediate use in your daily work.
  • Understand change context, change levers, and change leader moves that effect meaningful and sustained change.
  • Explore case studies from leaders who used the Change Leadership Toolkit.
  • Connect with colleagues leading change at their institutions.
