Sam Bacharach, the McKelvey-Grant Professor at Cornell University and a respected trainer in higher education, will discuss his new book, Transforming the Clunky Organization: Pragmatic Leadership Skills for Breaking Inertia (Cornell University Press, July 2018) as a follow up to The Agenda Mover: When Your Good Idea is Not Enough (2016). Sam will lead this session remotely.
Transforming the Clunky Organization focuses on why organizations fall into patterns of inertia and details the critical pragmatic leadership skills leaders need to develop to regain organizational momentum. While the examples in the volume are drawn from such organizations as Apple, Samsung, Ericsson, Blackberry, Walmart, RadioShack, W.L. Gore, Uniliver, and others, universities are particularly vulnerable to inertia and have difficulty moving from sluggish to thriving.
With his colleagues, he has developed and delivered high-potential leadership training programs at a number of universities, including Cornell University, Lehigh University, and University of Virginia. In this presentation, Professor Bacharach will offer a template that university leaders, at all levels, can use to create agility and synergy for the continuous organized flow of information and the movement of new ideas. Using the skills of robust discovery and focused delivery, leaders will not only be able to guide and support the ideation process, but will also have the skills need to put those ideas in place.
